Hope.MD was founded by a small group of local national physicians and military doctors who have worked outside the wire in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We have seen the heartbreaking circumstances that families have endured during combat, and the lack of healthcare infrastructure and resources for help. We founded Hope.MD in an effort to create "patients without borders", with the goal of connecting specialists in academic centers throughout the world with children who need life altering surgeries.
Although we are a very small organization, we are able to function in austere areas that large non-profit organizations and specialty physicians have had great difficulty reaching. After coordinating several dozen advanced tertiary care cases in Iraq, Hope.MD turned to its first case in Afghanistan. We have only been able to help a small group of children through our own personal resources, but with that beginning, any child can now receive care through the generosity of the global community. We would be deeply grateful if you would help bring families in Iraq and Afghanistan hope for a brighter future.

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

We can, on occasion, gain access to outgoing satellite phone calls.
